Prijzen

Jaarlijks reikt de NKWP samen met haar Vlaamse zusterorganisatie VPW twee prijzen uit, de Els Witte Jaarprijs Politicologie voor het beste proefschrift in de politicologie (en aanverwante disciplines) en de Daniël Heinsiusprijs voor de beste Masterscriptie van het voorgaande jaar. De uitreiking van de prijzen vindt plaats op het jaarlijkse politicologenetmaal, waar de winnaars respectievelijk €1000 en €500 in ontvangst mogen nemen.

Voordrachten voor de Els Witte jaarprijs kunnen worden ingediend bij de secretaris van de jury, Lukas Spielberger, per email aan elswitteprijs[at]politicologie.nl (deadline is 1 maart – de nominator wordt gevraagd om gebruik te maken van een nominatieformulier) en voor de Daniël Heinsiusprijs bij de secretaris van de jury van de Daniël Heinsiusprijs, Benjamin Blanckaert (deadline is 1 maart) voorzien van pdf-exemplaren. Els Witte Jaarprijs Politicologie

De Els Witte Jaarprijs Politicologie wordt sinds 1985 uitgereikt. Om in aanmerking te komen dient het proefschrift te zijn verdedigd aan een universiteit in België of in Nederland. Het is mogelijk om een proefschrift te nomineren die elders is verdedigd, mits deze betrekking heeft op de Nederlandse of Belgische politiek. De secretaris van de jury besluit of een proefschrift aan deze eis voldoet. Criteria voor toekenning van de prijs zijn de wetenschappelijke kwaliteit in theoretisch en methodisch-technisch opzicht, de gerichtheid op de praktijk van de politiek en de redactionele vormgeving. Sinds 2018 is de prijs vernoemd naar Els Witte, die in België als politiek historica en universiteitsbestuurder haar naam heeft gemaakt.

Daniël Heinsiusprijs

Tot en met 1998 reikte de kernredactie van Acta Politica jaarlijks tijdens het Politicologenetmaal de Daniël Heinsius-scriptieprijs uit aan een student die, naar het oordeel van de redactie, in zijn of haar scriptie in het voorgaande academisch jaar op de meest aansprekende wijze met behulp van sociaal-wetenschappelijke theorieën en /of methoden een antwoord heeft gegeven op een politicologisch relevante probleemstelling. De prijs is met ingang van 2000 overgenomen door het bestuur van de NKWP. Voor de Daniël Heinsius Scriptieprijs kunnen docenten en studenten doctoraalscripties voordragen. De scriptie dient het cijfer 8 of hoger te hebben verkregen.

De prijs is vernoemd naar Daniël Heinsius, die kan worden beschouwd als de eerste hoogleraar in Europa met een leeropdracht op het terrein van de politieke wetenschap. In 1612 werd hij aan de Leidse universiteit benoemd tot hoogleraar Politices. Hij was zozeer geliefd om zijn uitnemende colleges dat hij bekend stond als lumen academiae.
