{"id":126,"date":"2016-04-12T19:06:20","date_gmt":"2016-04-12T18:06:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/politicologie.nl\/?p=126"},"modified":"2016-04-12T19:06:20","modified_gmt":"2016-04-12T18:06:20","slug":"keynote-at-politicologenetmaal-2016-does-feminism-need-political-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/politicologie.nl\/?p=126","title":{"rendered":"Keynote at Politicologenetmaal 2016: Does feminism need Political Science?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are honoured to announce that Professor Joni Lovenduski has accepted\u00a0to give the plenary lecture at the annual Politicologenetmaal entitled\u00a0&#8216;Does feminism need Political Science?&#8217; (Thursday 2 June 2016).<\/p>\n<p>Joni Lovenduski is Anniversary Professor of Politics at Birkbeck\u00a0College, University of London where she has worked since 2000. She has\u00a0been a Fellow of the British Academy since 2007 and was elected an\u00a0Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences in 2009. She is Chair of\u00a0the Editorial Board of Political Quarterly and a member of the editorial\u00a0boards of British Politics, The British Journal of Political Science and\u00a0French Politics. She was Professor of Politics and head of Department at\u00a0Southampton University from 1995 to 2000. She was Vice \u2013 Chair of the\u00a0European Consortium for Political Research from 2000-2003 and a member\u00a0of the Research Council of the European University Institute from 2003-\u00a02008. She has acted as consultant on Gender and Politics for UNECE, the\u00a0European Commission and the Council of Europe. She directed the European\u00a0Commission funded investigation of the state of the art of research on\u00a0Gender and Politics in Europe in 1996 and 1997. Until the programme was\u00a0completed in 2010 she was a European convener of the European Science\u00a0Foundation funded Research Network on Gender and the State. Currently\u00a0she is one of the three convers of the international Gender Equality in\u00a0Practice Project.\u00a0 In 2007 she won the Political Studies Association\u00a0Special Recognition Award for her contribution to political studies.\u00a0 In\u00a02009 she won the Gender and Politics Award of the ECPR Standing Group on\u00a0Gender and Politics. In 2013 she received the UK Political Studies<br \/>\nAssociation\u2019s Sir Isaiah Berlin prize for lifetime achievement in\u00a0political studies.<\/p>\n<p>Her published work on gender and politics includes Gendering Politics,\u00a0Feminizing Political Science (2015)\u00a0 Feminizing Politics (2005), State\u00a0Feminism and Political Representation (2005), The Hansard Report on\u00a0Women at the Top 2005 (with Sarah Childs and Rosie Campbell. Gender and\u00a0Political Participation (2004) with Pippa Norris and Rosie Campbell;\u00a0Women and European Politics (1986)Contemporary Feminist Politics (1993)(with Vicky Randall), Political Recruitment: Gender, Race and Class in\u00a0the British Parliament (1995) (with Pippa Norris), and High Tide or High\u00a0Time for Labour Women (1998) (with Maria Eagle MP). She was co- editor\u00a0of The Politics of the Second Electorate (1981) The New Politics of\u00a0Abortion(1986)Gender and Party Politics (1993) and editor Feminism and\u00a0Politics (2000) as well as many articles and essays in edited collection.
